My cheap-ass POS vacuum cleaner has pretty much given up, so I grabbed my Grandma’s more expensive vacuum out of the spare bedroom. It had stopped working very well a while ago, so of course I decided to take it apart into little bitty pieces.
The bag was completely full, with no replacement in site, so the first thing I did was de-crap the bag so I could re-use it.
Next was the hoses. I don’t know how they were still using this thing because the entire hose system was completely blocked with hair, dirt, and carpet fluff. A straightened out wire hanger solved that problem.
The final problem was that there was so much crap wrapped around the rotating brush that it didn’t want to spin and was burning up the belt.
I have to say though, it’s fun when I start a project with no idea of what I’m getting into, no real expectation of success, taking something apart into all its basic pieces, then somehow it works great once I put it all back together again.
This is the best these old carpets have looked in a long time.
