I got a visit from Jim late last night. He was actually on the way to his girlfriend’s house, but he made a pit stop in here for a bit to drop some things off and to hang out for a while. But thanks to some stuff in all of my “memory tubs” that I’ve got stored here, he ended up staying eight hours as we went through some old e-mails that I had printed out for some reason.
It was so much fun going through those e-mails… remembering things that we hadn’t even thought about for over a decade at least, but seeing us talking about it in our own words really took us back to that time in our lives.
There were things about different girlfriends at the time, things we were doing with friends, plans about moving out and getting our first apartments, drama involving those girlfriends…
Just so many things that made us laugh and laugh, remembering how different we were back then, and how we’d handle things so much differently now that we’re older and wiser.
It was really kewl, because there were e-mails that he sent from some very specific moments in his life… moments (although none of us knew then) that were really key in forming him and his life into what they are today. I won’t get into details, since it’s his personal business… but yeah… there were e-mails that we read and thought of how different life would be if he had chosen “a” instead of “b” for lack of a better way to describe it.
And while I’ve caught shit from my friends many times over the years for keeping a journal, or what they would call a diary… heh… times like this are exactly why I did it. Nothing like reminiscing about the dumb shit we did as kids, and seeing it in our own words again.
I’m still in “clean up the house” mode right now, but as soon as I take some time off from that I’m definitely gonna start scanning a lot of my old photos… starting with the ones from around the time of those e-mails, so that way me and my friends will have some images to go with the funny tales.
