September 8, 2010 — Waiting

Since nothing was going on today in regards to Grandma’s funeral, we decided to distract ourselves for a little bit by going to one of the local auctions.  There wasn’t much stuff we were really interested in, so I ended up only spending about twenty bucks.  There was other stuff I could have bought, but people were bidding like crazy today for some reason.

I got a big 4-drawer plastic storage thing, an office chair for the computer desk, a handful of Mercury dimes, and four boxes full of cassette tapes.  Once I go through them I’ll probably list a few of my favorites.  Lots of classic rock, and tons of old school hip-hop and rap from when I was a kid.

I took a break from bidding for a minute to call Mom and talk to her about the funeral plans.  It sounds like everything is going to be really nice.  She explained how the casket has some special engraving things that they will be allowed to take and keep before they lower it into the ground.

And also, since Grandpa was cremated when he passed away, it’s almost as if it is going to be a double funeral - because his ashes are going to go in the casket with Grandma, so not only are they together again in heaven, but they will be together forever here on earth as well.

It sounds strange to some people, but I have this mix of happy and sad when someone I love dies.  Of course I will miss everyone that passes before me, but I can’t help but be happy for where they’ve moved on to.  Knowing her and Grandpa are back together again, looking down on us…  it makes me smile.
